Cave Springs - Hoxie Hall, 4410 Cave Spring Rd, Lincoln, ON L0R 1B1, Canada

About the event

We will be gathering in Hoxie Hall, at Cave Springs Retreat & Conference Center. It is located on the Niagara Escarpment in Beamsville, Ontario, in the scenic heart of wine country and nestled in the beautiful Carolinian forest with a trailhead access to the popular Bruce Trail.

This beautiful property features spectacular vistas overlooking Lake Ontario and the old Lake Iroquois shore. It is an exquisite representation of the Niagara Escarpment’s talus slopes and cliffs. The cultural folklore and mystique of Cave Springs is as rich as its natural diversity. The late Margaret Reed, who donated the property to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA), fondly spoke of the spring’s reputation as a ‘fountain of youth’. There is a famous ice cave, once used for refrigeration, as well as an underground lake, a wartime hideout, mysterious rock carvings, and a nearby native North American encampment site.

THE PURPOSE OF THE LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IS TO RESPECTFULLY AND MEANINGFULLY RECOGNIZE ALL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND THEIR CLOSE CONNECTION TO THE LAND AND WATER OF ANCESTRAL INHABITATION. The Niagara Peninsula watershed is situated within the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Attiwonderonk (Neutral), and the Anishinaabeg, including the Mississaugas of the Credit—many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties (No. 3, 4, and 381) and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today, the watershed is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
