The Year Of The Ox - The Chinese Zodiac Of 2021

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

2021 is the year of the Metal Ox, the Chinese welcomed in the Year of the Ox on Friday 12th February 2021, just after the new moon. In this article, we’re exploring what it is to be an Ox and how these characteristics influence the lives of those born under the second Zodiac sign of the Chinese calendar.

In the Chinese zodiac calendar, an animal is assigned an entire year of prominence. Starting in February and lasting until the following January, these signs recur every 12 years.

What Makes 2021 A Metal Ox Year?

The recent zodiac years of Ox sign are: 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, and this year, 2021. The next Ox year is 2033. The last Metal Ox year was 1961.

In the Chinese Zodiac, each animal is assigned a fixed element, for the Ox that sign is Earth. When the year ends in a 0 or a 1, the additional mutable element of Metal is applied.

The metal element is associated with resilience, solidity, and willpower.

What Are The Personality Traits Of The Ox?

Generally speaking, those born in the sign of the Ox are honest, diligent, gentle, hardworking, reliable, patient, materialistic, and stubborn. Understandably, these traits mirror those of the animal itself. Many Oxes demonstrate the traditionally conservative characteristics of dependability, strength, and determination. It is recognized that the female Ox is a trustworthy, faithful wife and as a mother places great importance on the education of her offspring. Male Oxes are strongly patriotic, idealistic, and ambitious and attach great importance to family and work life.

Return of the Ox

If you are an Ox, this year it is especially prudent to take care in your dealings and actions. Our birth year, known in the Chinese Zodiac as Ben Ming Nain, is thought to be particularly precarious. There is a superstition that the recurrence of a Zodiac sign is fraught with misfortune. The reason for this is that the God of Age, Tai Sui, is believed to be offended by those in their birth year and ultimately incur his wrath.

It is widely held that big decisions such as getting married, starting a business, or buying a house are delayed until the next year. To attract luck it is advised to wear a talisman of jade, crystal, or gold and wearing the traditional color of red for luck.

Health, wealth, and happiness for Ox people

Oxes generally enjoy robust health, with strong physical fitness long into old age. Oxes tend to lead fulfilled lives with little illness to trouble them.

Since Oxes naturally work very hard it is important for them to strike the balance of work and play. Rest and relaxation are essential for Oxes to enjoy the fullness of life without interruption.

Hardworking Oxes are active, effective, and popular with friends. These traits lend themselves to steady employment where there are clear objectives and structure.

Possessed with a responsible and logical approach, Oxes take their work seriously and always complete the task at hand, often intuiting alternative ways to get the job done.

Endowed with a stubborn temperament, Oxes bear stress and tension with ease. Their unwillingness to reveal themselves equips them well for managerial positions where there is a level of diplomacy and tact required.

Are you an Ox? How will you navigate the challenges of the return of your birth year? You have been warned!
